Cove Cay Golf Club
About
Cove Cay Golf Club is located along the shores of Tampa Bay, offering scenic views and abundant wildlife. Water is a prominent feature on the golf course, coming into play on 12 holes. The course is tight with narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky dogleg holes. In addition to all of the water hazards, there are also deep bunkers lining the greensides. At 6,000 yards, it is not a long course by any means but what it lacks in length it makes up for in shot-making challenges. Thanks to its length though, it can usually be played in under four hours. The layout features a diverse set of hazards that will require the use of every club in your bag. Cove Cay Golf Club's signature hole is the par-5 17th. This dramatic hole runs alongside the bay, making accuracy a necessity in order to reach the small peninsula green.

Cove Cay on Tampa Bay Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Rough Rough, Fast Greens
Cove Cay has a great layout, tight but playable. It’s made challenging due to the deep rough and pool table fast greens! It was fun!!!
Nice Course
The course was in great condition…its a short course but the rough was DEEP and the greens were FAST…challenging enough to make it interesting
Why have tee times???
Showed up 45minutes before tee time to be told that I would have to play the front twice since I booked 18 holes, my tee time was 2:48.
When I asked why I was told there was a high school tournament scheduled on the back 9 at 4:00. Why have tee times available for 18 if you're going to restrict a player to playing the same 9 holes twice? Was a waste of time for me.
Cove Cay
Great staff, very nice rental irons and fair prices for everything in the pro shop. Great day and very fair for the price
Still one of the best around.
I play here frequently. The fairways and greens always seem to be in good shape. I still think that the cost is a little to high. Any higher and we wouldn't play there. Any lower and we wod probably ply more often. But once you do check in, the course is always good.
Ok Course but better values are out there.
Positives:
-Located in Pinellas County
-Greens were good
-Pace of Play was great. Even on Sunday, no waiting.
-Rough is brutal with tight fairways
-Carts were brand new and all-electric
-The view on the last two holes is beautiful.
Negatives:
-This is a 50-year old course and feels it. Trees have been allowed to overtake the course. It is in serious need of trimming back to make it playable.
-It’s a very tight course wedged in amongst several condo buildings. Not particularly scenic.
-Maintenance is minimal. Tee boxes are chewed up, weeds everywhere including fairways and greens.
-It was Sunday and several fairways were not mowed. That’s unacceptable.
Conclusion:
The course is ok but not great. Feels old. Seems a little overpriced.

Stay away from this place!
Worst course to play. If you enjoy bad attitudes, rough fairways, and greens, and the majority of this course smelling like a sewer, then this is the place for you. However, if you're looking for a well-maintained facility with friendly staff, I would recommend avoiding this course. The owner seems to struggle with hiring the right people to run and maintain the place. Additionally, the marshal's lack of attentiveness can be frustrating. The trash cans are not even properly maintained, and there is trash everywhere, including cigarettes and animal poop all over the greens.
Rainy that day but still soo much fun
This course is awesome, I’ve played here many times and this day I only played the front 9 and it was raining off and on most of my round, but it was still worth the wet. I’ll be back!!
Not As Advertised
The course is nothing like the pictures. There are maybe 3 holes along the water, with everything else being amongst condominiums. The starter said we were the only group to tee off on time (we were standing on the first tee at our time, 10:18am, and didn't hit a ball until 10:30).
This is a short course and it is within a gated community of older folks so be prepared to wait. The course was in decent shape but almost every green had large patches of fresh sod that were not fully grown in.
The transfusion from the cart girl were also $20 each.
Overall, not the worst experience but do not be fooled by the picturesque photos online. This is a typical muni course with tight fairways and holes right on top of each other.
Not sure who you are referring to. We were a couple guys, and had a group of young people in front and behind us. Guy and gal behind us were really nice, not pushing us along. However, it looked like behind then some angry, old ladies were trying to force their way through everyone. My bud and I will not be back. Patches on the green, dirt on fairways, barely any bay views, and just a not well kept course.
Are you the gal who got in trouble for taking off her clothes on the course? If so, you were the reason for the bad pace of play that day. Typically, we have a 4 and 1/2 hour 18-hole round on a Sunday as it's a busy day.
We appreciate the review. Please let us know how we can earn a 4 or 5-star review next time. Thank you!
Greens were awful. Very little grass. Many greens had burnt out areas. Greens need watering. Not a flat surface for many pin placements.
May as well be putting on cement because that’s how fast they were
Pace of play was awful. Waited every shot.
Stopped at the restaurant at the turn and that was a disaster. First they said card only and no cash. Then cash only because their machines were down. Wanted us to leave the card because they needed to hold on to it because they couldn’t run the order through. At 12:00 on a Saturday they should have had it up and running.
Manager or whoever was working with the waitresses was nasty and rude.
Wouldn’t recommend this course. Carts have no GPS.
I'm so sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience. It's always busy on the weekend and there is no such thing as a 4 hour round of golf in Florida. Also, we just switched to card only and are working out some kinks. Apologies!
Classic Florida Course
Great course, great layout, if you can only play one public course in Tampa this is a great option.
I play at Cove Cay and I can tell you that it's a beautiful course and the photos are not fake. I'm a freelance digital marketer and not a CCGC staff member. Cove Cay has water on 13 holes. Sorry you feel your round was slow.
