Westchase Golf Club
About
Designed by Lloyd Clifton, Westchase winds through acres of lakes, conservation areas and forest. It offers manicured greens surrounded by natural wetlands, wooden bridges and bulkheads. With its 9,500 sq. ft. clubhouse, full-service dining room, and fully stocked pro shop, Westchase offers a country club atmosphere along with first-class service. The golf club has established itself as one of Tampa Bay's best upscale golf facilities. The front nine meander through an impressive pine forest. The back nine -- which is demanding on the tee shot -- features lakes, wetlands and cypress. Strategically placed bunkers, more sparkling lakes and stands of cypress, oak, palmetto and pine frame the fairways and greens. Signature Hole No. 3, at 212 yards from the back tee, is all you can handle -- It's a Par 3 all-carry over water from the back tee!

Tight but nice
Arrived a bit earlier than my tee time and staff allowed me to go out right away. First hole starts with water down the right, so be prepared. In fact water or impenetrable rough comes into play on almost every hole so if it's your first time playing, stay conservative. I didn't on the front nine and it cost me. Took my own advice on the back and ended up loving the course. There are some rough spots in the fairways throughout so you might want to play "preferred" lies. However, overall the course was playable and in decent shape. Great staff, very friendly and very helpful.
Best course north of Tampa.
Loved the layout, the conditions and the practice area. Can’t say enough good things about the course.
Enjoyable outing
Played Late morning on 10/3. Pace of play was excellent as the course was relatively empty. On the front 9 there wasn't anyone ahead of us. A twosome teed off on 10 as we made the turn, but they let us through.
As far as course conditions, I did not give a 5 as the bunkers need some work IMO. Not enough sand.
Fairways were good and rough was fair. Greens still showed affects of aeration, but putted smoothly. I gave it a fair rating for value as Westchase seems to feel that it is worth $60 dollars even in the off season. I'm sure they are still trying to make back moneys lost during the pandemic, but with mostly FLA residents playing in offseason, $35-$40 seems to me to be more reasonable.
Enjoyable course
I had an amazing day playing golf at this location. I will definitely be back.
Great course
They aerated the greens a week or so before we played, but they did it right, sanded, raked and washed in, but the putting was still acceptable, I would definitely play again.
Greens
Greens were recently areated and which made putting difficult at times. The greens were bumpy and quite a few putts were missed because of that. Other than the greens, Westchase is an excellent course to play.
Punched but Pretty
This is a beautifully maintained course. They recently punched the greens so the fees were reduced and I could afford to play it again. Fairways and tees are gorgeous. Greens were punched and VERY fast. I do think they were a little tired and bare, You need to strategize many of your shots and there were quite a few "carry" shots over water, traps, etc.
But overall it was a great day. Recommended.
Good course…..BUT
I played at a very good golf now discount and used my points so it only cost me $25, which at this course is unheard of. I live 3 miles from the course but have never played here in 2 yrs of living in Tampa. I play two times a week and it’s just unaffordable for my “normal” income and lifestyle.
The course is , in my opinion , very easy from the white tees(6200). If you’re a low handicapper, you will score low-80s to low 70’s—no problem. I drove two par 5s, and rarely do this anymore at 54 yrs of age.
This course isn’t worth more than $40(especially in the summer afternoons in FL). The green fees are some of the highest around for the Tampa area. The conditions are good , but no way is it worth the $50 -$80 a round that the course charges. I was literally almost the almost golfer out on the course , and I tee off at 11, not 1 or 2 in the afternoon. They should have much better discounts in the dog days of summer to get people out on the course. Btw, it wasn’t even terribly hot either.
If I play again(only playing if I get $40 or less rate, which is hard to do at this course), I will play the tips and I can see this being a little more challenging, but the slope rating still isn’t that hard.
It was nice going out as a single and not having to join a two some or three some of friends , or beginning golfers who struggle to hit the ball on most holes. I have noticed since
Moving to Tampa, there are a lot of high handicap golfers who don’t seem to have a clue how to swing a golf club and especially once’s that have a decent short game(chipping and pitching is all technique). You tube can teach people A LOT, if only people would check out some good instruction on there. Off my rant. . Have fun..:)
Nice course
We like this course, it has gotten a bit expensive 200 buck for 2 that is a bit much.
But it is a nice course, we are local and have a choice of many other courses, but if you are visiting its a nice course to play at.
But you add another 100 bucks and you can go play TPC Tampa bay instead.
Course has Airiated
The course is not playable right now 7/22/23. The fairways are cut by a machine and the greens are not playable. Perhaps in a month or 2 months.
Hi namlook,
sorry to jump on your post.
but we are travelling over from the UK in 2024 and I'm trying to research some good value, but good quality courses between Posner Park (Nr.Championsgate) and Tampa.
we've played TPC Tampa a couple of times which we all enjoyed, difficult course and now way too expensive!! like $50 over our budget now. the time of year would be February.
If you were willing to enlighten our group on some hidden gems that would be gratfully appreciated.
Handicaps of the group range from 6 to 19
